FORT FRANCES, Ont. — Riverside Health Care and the Northwestern Health Unit have identified the main organism responsible for a respiratory outbreak at Rainycrest Long Term Care.

The outbreak at the Fort Frances nursing home was declared on March 4.

In a statement Tuesday, officials said respiratory syncytial virus is the principal viral organism behind the outbreak.

Riverside warned the public that "RSV is the most common cause of viral bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants and children, and can cause severe infection in some adults with heart and lung disease, or anyone with a weakened immune system."

Visiting restrictions at Rainycrest are in effect, and admissions, transfers, and social activities are cancelled until further notice.
