THUNDER BAY – Starting on Tuesday, representatives of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore will be collecting donations at the city’s solid waste and recycling facility on Mapleward Road.
According to a release issued on Friday by the city, residents visiting the landfill are invited to turn over gently used building materials, appliances, cabinets, furniture, tools, plumbing and electrical materials at the Habitat for Humanity tent, located after the scales near the public drop-off bins.
Volunteers will also be on hand collecting reusable household items.
“This will be the first ReStore Week event of the year, aimed at preventing reusable items from being buried in the landfill site,” said Randy Moore, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, in the release.
“If you have a used item and don’t make it out during the event, make sure to drop it off at the ReStore at 660 Squier St.”
Last year’s ReStore events diverted 8,130 kilograms from the landfill and the goal is to match or surpass that amount in 2018.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore with this special, week-long collection,” said Jason Sherband, the city’s manager of solid waste and recycling services.
The collection takes place from May 22 to May 26.
