Retired Thunder Bay judge dies

Justice John Wright became a judge in Thunder Bay in 1985 after spending 20 years practicing as a lawyer.

THUNDER BAY - A retired Thunder Bay judge has recently died.

Justice John Wright spent nearly 30 years on the bench before retiring in 2015. Wright died on June 30 of cancer, according to an emailed statement.

Wright spent two decades working as a lawyer before becoming a judge in 1985.

"John was appointed to what became the Superior Court of Justice in 1985 and served the court faithfully until his retirement in 2015 at the age of 75," the statement reads.

Wright was also known as a scholar of legal history, the email said.
