Construction on the site of the new Isabella Street Retirement Home is ahead of schedule.
The project is so ahead of schedule that the decision has been made to slow down progress.

The 94-unit facility is scheduled to open in late February or early March of next year, but architect John Stephenson says crews were on pace to complete the project in the fall. He said that is typically one of the worst times of year to open a retirement facility as many seniors don't like to move when winter weather is setting in.

Stephenson insists it just doesn't make financial sense to finish the project ahead of schedule.
The same group that manages Hilldale Gardens Retirement Living will run the new retirement centre.

Stephenson said about 10 prospective tenants have already put down deposits while another 20-to-25 have expressed interest in the facility.
