THUNDER BAY -- With Easter just around the corner, the Regional Food Bank is experiencing a shortage of supplies, and they're asking for the public's help.
While the warehouse might seem fully stocked with items like crackers and other pantry items, the freezer is bare and the crates, which should be full of non-perishable items like pasta, are empty.
The RFDA is an organization that strives to address food shortages in the Northwest, and right now, they are struggling to meet the needs of various food banks and other charities.
Community Services Manager Brendan Carlin said they are in dire need of produce and other nutritious items that can help feed a family.
“We have a lot of crackers, a lot of cookies and those types of things, which aren’t the best things for putting on your plate to feed a family,” Carlin said.
“We have some partnerships with some groups in southern Ontario and other places that want to send up truckloads of produce or truckloads of different items but we don’t have the money to transport all of it here, so we are looking for funding.
Carlin adds that the RFDA not only distributes items to food banks, but they also make soups and other freezable meals.
Anyone who wishes to lend a helping hand is encouraged to drop off donations of food or money directly to their office on Syndicate Avenue.
