The shelves are nearly empty at the Regional Food Distribution Association, prompting organizers to issue a desperate plea for help to the Thunder Bay public.
The organization, which supplies food to more than three dozen food banks throughout Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario, issued the call for help on Wednesday, stating they are completely out of their top 10 most needed goods.
“We project that our inventory of these items will continue to remain virtually empty until our annual Hunger for Harvest Food Drive in the fall, when we can stock our shelves again to help our 39 member food banks and the 13,000 people they serve each month,” said the RFDA’s Volker Kromm.
“We are asking the generous people of Thunder Bay to help us “Fill the Gap” between now and the food drive by donating anything from our top 10 items, or any extra healthy produce from your gardens that you don’t have the space to store or the time to eat.”
Items on the list include canned fish or meat, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, pork and beans, peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal and canned soup.
Donations are accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday, at 570 South Syndicate Ave.
“With your help, this summer we can ensure that we will let no one go hungry in our midst,” Kromm said.
