BEARDMORE, Ont.  – It was fittingly snowing at the foot of the Beardmore Snowman on Thursday as dignitaries cut the ribbon on the new Beardmore multi-purpose centre.

The refurbished former Legion building is housing municipal offices, the health clinic, the library and community meeting space.

Beardmore residents have been without a Service Ontario office since early 2015 and Greenstone intends to fund those services, along with making the office the municipality’s tourism gateway on its western edge.

“It’s important for the people of Beardrmore. They have a place where they can attend to all the functions that relate to the municipality but it also increases a sense of hope when you’re coming into Beardmore,” said Greenstone Mayor Renald Beaulieu.

“We’ve got the landmark, which is the snowman there. For the people, it’s a good sense of belonging to Greenstone.”

Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle held the ribbon-cutting scissors with Beaulieu, as the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation contributed $655,000 toward the construction of the new facility.
