THUNDER BAY —  Motorists who travel on River Street between Balsam and Elm Streets will need to detour between Wednesday and Friday of this week.

That stretch of the four-lane artery will be closed to traffic to allow for the installation of new sewer and water pipes.

Only local residential traffic will be permitted.

Commercial vehicles will be barred from using River between Algoma Street and Elm Street.

The city says these vehicles should use the Thunder Bay Expressway and Balsam Street to get to and from the area.

The detour for non-commercial vehicles will be at Campbell Street, using Balsam and Elm.

It's expected that the work will be completed by 8 p.m. on Friday, May 1.
