When more than 300 bikers start their engines in June, it won’t just be a bunch of noise to Joe McEachern.
The president of Superior Riders Motorcyle Club said the roar for the cure, which will start the 12th annual Bell Motorcycle Ride for Dad June 16, will sound like a symphony.
“To me as a biker I don’t even hear any noise it’s just a beautiful sound it’s kind of like standing there with the orchestra warming up,” he said.
The ride, which has raised almost $700,000 over the past 11 years, is a great way to get bikers together for a single cause McEachern said.
“It’s a chance for a person involved in the motorcycle community to do something positive for the community we live in and maybe get by that stigma of bikers are rough around the edges and don’t care,” he said. “Our visibility makes it easier for us to raise money for prostate cancer.”
It’s also a chance to raise awareness for a disease that affects more Ontario men than any other cancer.
“More men are affected by prostate cancer than women are actually by breast cancer,” ride steering committee Terry Young said Wednesday morning at the ride kickoff at The Keg.
Bikers looking to sign up can head to Halfway Motors on May 5.
