A variety of music genres will be playing at the Trinity United Church next Friday.
About 10 bands from across the region will be performing live at the church on Algoma Street. The acts will vary in genre and will include folk, rock, new country, Celtic and even Scottish bagpipes. The event is in support of the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre.
Leading the charge for this event will be the second-year business marking students from Confederation College.
Terry Kwissiwa, one of the 25 students who helped organize the event, said they wanted to make a unique experience for people and decided to vary the types of music.
He said there’s something for everyone at their show.
“We’re going to have two venues,” Kwissiwa said.
“The bands are going to play in the hall part and the singer performers such as the folk musicians and country singers will play in the church. Normally, when you get a concert put together for charity its one type of music genre. We wanted this to be an unique event where we can capture all kinds of people who like different types of music.”
He said a few bands dropped out but their spots were always filled quickly.
With less than a week to go before the big show, Kwissiwa said things were going smoothly and preparations were nearly complete.
Given that it’s a business marking course, he said the event also gives him and the other students a chance to test out what they have learned at the college as well as learn how to handle evens in the real world.
He said it’s the biggest event the class has ever done and added they hoped to raise between $1,000 to $5,000.
Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at Confederation College, Trinity United Church or from individual students. Doors open at 7 p.m. and a full list of acts will be published closer to the snow.
