A snowy rooftop hideout only delayed the inevitable for an alleged break-and-enter artist.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers took an unidentified man into custody Monday morning, apprehending him on the roof of a Rupert Street home after tailing him with the assistance of their canine unit.

Police spokesman Chris Adams said the alleged suspect sustained minor injuries after a scuffle with police led to a dog bite from the canine officer.

"The call came in on McKibbin Street in the 100-block area, of a suspicious person," Adams said. "He was spotted coming out of a house on McKibbin Street. He fled one block over to Rupert Street to the rooftop. The dog got involved in helping to secure the suspect."

A number of electronic devices, alleged to have been stolen from the McKibbin Street address, were recovered at the scene.

The alleged suspect is in custody facing numerous charges, one of which will be breaking and entering, Adams said.
