THUNDER BAY -- A homeowner on Northern Avenue forgot to call before they dug, and ruptured a gas line as a result.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, in a release issued on Saturday evening, said they evacuated nearby houses as a precaution until the gas company repaired the line.

The fire department reminds the public to phone their utility company before putting shovels in the ground to avoid a similar, potentially dangerous situation.

Three pumpers and a command vehicle responded to the call, which came in at about 1:30 p.m.
