Candidates running in municipal elections in rural areas of this region have been finalized and it appears that the mayors and reeve in the three largest communities will have to defend their seats.
In Oliver-Paipoonge, Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis is being challenged by former Paipoonge Reeve John Graveson.
Meanwhile, in the municipality of Shuniah, long-time Reeve Maria Harding will be up against political newcomer Peter Tighe.
In Neebing, Mayor Steven Harasen has three opponents. That opposition includes John Livingston, Coun. Beverly Mercer, and former councillor Ziggy Polkowski.
