THUNDER BAY -- Seven rural schools have been closed for the day and the rural bus service has been cancelled.

Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay on Tuesday said the decision was made based on weather and road conditions.

Affected schools include Crestview, Five Mile, Gorham and Ware, Kakabeka Falls, McKenzie, Valley Central and Whitefish Valley. Norwester'View School remains open, although buses serving the school are not in operation.

Urban schools remain open, but students attending them living on rural bus routes will have to make their own way to class.

All Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and CSDC Aurores Boreales schools are open.
