THUNDER BAY -- Icy weather means students at Thunder Bay's rural schools will have an unexpected day off.

Lakehead Public Schools issued a release on Thursday morning warning parents that all rural schools and all rural bus routes have been cancelled for the day, including busing for rural high school students.

All urban elementary and secondary schools will remain open for the day, including Nor'wester View and Five Mile public schools.

Closed on Thursday are Valley Central, Crestview, Whitefish Valley, Gorham and Ware, McKenzie and Kakabeka Falls public schools.

According to a post on the Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay, all other schools remain open and students are expected to attend classes.
