Vince Simon hopes the SAAFE Walk will let people know there is one more addiction people are struggling with daily.

“It’s solvent abuse,” said the executive director of the Ka-Na-Chi-Hih Specialized Solvent Abuse Treatment Centre. “It exists in everyday life and people that we deal with are using everyday household products.”

Thursday the centre held the 11th annual Solvent Abuse Awareness for Everyone (SAAFE) Walk.

A group of about 100 people came out to walk around the block near the centre.

Simon said they usually get about 40 to 50 people, but this year the turnout was higher because they invited comedian Don Burnstick to help with their workshop and perform in the evening.

“It’s working,” Simon said. “There are a lot of people out there.”
