DRYDEN, Ont. -- The process to see what the cost to have Dryden policed by the Ontario Provincial Police is on hold.
This past summer Dryden city council decided to look into the costs of disbanding the city police force and replacing it with the OPP, but the process has hit a snag.
New provincial safety regulations prevent the OPP from using the current Dryden Police Station.
In a presentation to council, CAO Ernie Remillard noted the process has been temporarily halted to allow the OPP time to look at alternative locations.
“The criteria is that you cannot be within one kilometre of train tracks carrying dangerous goods and other fuel gas stations and fuel depots,” Remillard said.
“The criteria changed with infrastructure Ontario, two to three years ago, so the project is not done it’s just being delayed until we receive more information.”
Remillard added there is no point in moving forward in identifying costs until this issue has been resolved.
