Salvation Army needs $30,000 in final days of kettle campaign

THUNDER BAY - The Salvation Army is hoping to raise nearly $30,000 in the final days of their Christmas kettle campaign.

THUNDER BAY - The Salvation Army is hoping to raise nearly $30,000 in the final days of their Christmas kettle campaign.

The organization issued a media release Monday, announcing they had raised more than $151,000 of the $180,000 goal heading into the final three days of collecting donations.

"People may not realize that when you help someone and their family, you're actually helping yourself and your family.  When you support The Salvation Army to help people get off the street, or beat addictions; when you help us to give someone a safe place to sort things out, or to give them food for their family, you are helping to make this city a better and safer place for you and yours," said executive director of the Salvation Army Community and Residental Services Captain Lori Mitchell in the release.

The Salvation Army has a few kettle shifts available due to cancellations and are also looking for volunteers for an on-call list to fill short notice cancellations.

Donations are collected until 1 p.m. Christmas Eve at three LCBO locations, the Walmart stores on Dawson Road and Memorial Avenue, Real Canadian Superstore and the Intercity Shopping Centre and Grandview Mall.

Donations can also be made online.
