THUNDER BAY -- This year’s Christmas Kettle campaign was a record-setter for the Salvation Army.

THUNDER BAY -- This year’s Christmas Kettle campaign was a record-setter for the Salvation Army.

The organization raised a little more than $187,000 locally in this year’s drive, well surpassing their target of $175,000 and eclipsing their previous marks.

In a media release the Salvation Army said the donations would be used towards their mobile feeding program, food bank and to offset expenses from aging equipment.

In recent months the Salvation Army has seen increased demand at their Cumberland Street headquarters, with demand for their nightly shelter exceeding the number of available beds.

Overflow beds have been moved into spaces that were previously common areas, which forced the organization to relocate their annual Christmas dinner.
