THUNDER BAY - This Christmas season was a good one for the Salvation Army.

The organization's annual kettle campaign raised a record $195,000 locally, far exceeding their goal of $180,000.

"On behalf of the people we serve in the community, thank you so much for your generosity - to our hundreds of volunteers who gave so selflessly of their time; to our donors who dug deep to help us surpass our goal," said Captain Lori Mitchell, executive director of the Salvation Army's Community and Residential Services in a media release.

"We couldn't keep doing what we do without you all doing what you do. Together we can make life better in Thunder Bay."

The money raised supports the organization's services such as their food van, food bank and to help the homless access and maintain independent living.
