Sandy Lake man charged with second-degree murder

A 24-year-old man has been re-arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 49-year-old man from Sandy Lake First Nation.

SANDY LAKE, ON – A 24-year-old man from Sandy Lake First Nation has been re-arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

On May 6, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to a call regarding a man in need of assistance outside a residence on River Road in Sandy Lake.

Officers responded and located 49-year-old Wilfred Fiddler from Sandy Lake First Nation in the ditch. He was transported by police to the Sandy Lake Nursing Station and was later pronounced dead.

In a release issued Monday, police said the cause of his death will not be released at this time.

On May 12, Kory Fiddler, 24, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

He is being held in custody in Kenora for an arraignment date.

This is an ongoing investigation.
