Lakehead Public Schools has approved a recommendation that it says will help labour relations.

The board met at a special meeting Tuesday about a recommendation to add a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Education and education unions and federations on collective agreements.

It includes voluntary unpaid leave, maternity leave, unpaid days, attendance recognition, sick leave, long-term disability, non-vested retirement gratuity and specialized job classes.

“This is evidence of the level of respect that Trustees have for Lakehead Public Schools employees,” Lakehead District School Board chair Deborah Massaro states in a news release issued to local media.
