THUNDER BAY – School Board trustees at Lakehead Public Schools will be getting an interim 6.8 per cent raise while the province finalizes the honorarium formula.

According to the agenda for Tuesday night’s board meeting, trustees will see their pay increase from $5,900 to $6,300 for the 2018-19 school year.

It’s the first raise in nearly a decade.

The increase also applies to trustees at the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board.

The province froze trustee pay in 2010, part of its Public Sector Compensation Restraint to Protect Public Services Act.

Trustees across the province are paid a base of $5,900, but can earn more depending on enrolment numbers.

The ministry intends to work with trustees’ associations to develop more detailed proposals to revise the honorarium formula.
