THUNDER BAY — It's not just a chronic shortage of school bus drivers that's affecting the way Thunder Bay students find their way to school.
Now there's a shortage of school crossing guards.
The City of Thunder Bay says there will be vacancies at some locations for the foreseeable future.
"We have communicated the shortage and vacant crossing locations with the impacted schools, and are working to prioritize those crossings with the greatest need so they are covered first," says crossing guard field supervisor Michelle Riemer.
Riemer said parents should discuss pedestrian safety tips with their children.
Each year, the city requires about 50 crossing guards.
It's currently five guards short.
The pay is $15.48 an hour for about 2.5 hours of work per day.
Anyone interested in working as a crossing guard can apply online.
