THUNDER BAY – Students in Thunder Bay will head back to the classroom a little later than originally planned.

Both the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and Lakehead Public Schools on Thursday announced they’ve pushed back the start date five days, to Sept. 8. Students were originally scheduled to return to class on Sept. 3, under the boards’ reopening plans.

Some students won’t be back until as late as Sept. 11.

“As stated throughout the pandemic, the safety of our students and staff is paramount and after careful consideration, we are opting for a student staggered entry to occur from Sept. 8 to Sept. 11. This allows all of us, additional time to refine our plan and prepare further,” the TBCDSB said in a release issued to local media.

“Our board has taken this opportunity to ensure all safety precautions are made for students, staff and families. A staggered start time will also help ease the transition for staff and students.”
