THUNDER BAY – The mayor of Schreiber is planning to run for a seat on city council in Thunder Bay.

Mark Figliomeni, who was elected as Schreiber’s mayor in 2014, on Monday announced his intention to run for an at-large position in Thunder Bay in this fall’s municipal election.

Figliomeni had previously announced he would not be seeking another term in Schreiber.

In a Facebook post announcing his plans to run in Thunder Bay, Figliomeni said for personal reasons his family moved to the city at the beginning of the month.

“I have a passion for municipal politics and believe that this, coupled with my experience, would have a positive impact on the city of Thunder Bay should I be elected,” Figliomeni said in the post.

Figliomeni currently sits as the vice-chair of the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board.

The at-large race currently includes incumbent Aldo Ruberto, current McIntyre ward representative Trevor Giertuga, along with challengers Diane Armstrong, Kim Ducharme, Chris Krumpholz and Tracey MacKinnon.

Incumbents Iain Angus, Larry Hebert and Frank Pullia have all filed to run for mayor. Rebecca Johnson has not yet announced her intentions.
