GRAND MARAIS, Minn. — Cook County, Minnesota has issued a travel advisory for non-residents including people who own summer properties in the Grand Marais area.

It's recommending that they stay at home in their primary residence, to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Cook County has many vacation properties owned by people from other parts of the state or country.

The county Board of Commissioners released an advisory Wednesday that said "Due to high community transmission in certain areas of the state and across the nation, Cook County is recommending that visitors stay in their home area...due to the county's limited healthcare infrastructure."

It asked people who have already relocated to their seasonal homes to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Cook County, the advisory stated, has one of the highest populations of older adults in Minnesota.

"This population is among those at the highest risk of COVID-19; it is our priority to keep our older residents safe," it added.

The county board said it may consider additional health and travel restrictions at some point.
