THUNDER BAY – A second staff member at the Southbridge Pinewood long-term care home in Thunder Bay has tested positive for COVID-19.

Southbridge Care Homes announced the second case at the 128-bed Walsh Street home Sunday via an update to the home's website.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced Friday an outbreak had been declared at the facility, after a single staff member tested positive.

Surveillance testing at the home had begun Friday, the health unit said, though it could not immediately confirm when initial testing of all residents and staff was expected to be complete.

It's the second local care home operated by the company to experience an outbreak, as another at the Southbridge Roseview drags into its second month, claiming a 13th life Sunday.

A third local home, Pioneer Ridge, announced an outbreak Saturday, after one staff member tested positive.
