THUNDER BAY -- A second suspect arrested in connection with the Canada Day assault turned homicide appeared in court Friday morning.
Carl Spencer Rae, 31, one of four suspects in the July 1 alleged robbery and assault of 52-year-old Christopher Adams, appeared in person at the Thunder Bay Courthouse Friday.
Rae and Becky Mamakwa, 21, were both charged with aggravated assault in the incident that took place outside of city hall on the corner of Donald and May Streets in the early morning hours of Canada Day.
The homicide investigation began after Adams died at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre July 8.
Rae's lawyer asked for his client to be remanded until Aug. 22 and said he expects the charges to be upgraded.
There is no word yet from police on whether the charges will be upgraded from aggravated assault.
Mamakwa's next court appearance is July 30.
Both of the accused remain in custody.
Two other men, considered by investigators to be persons of interest in this case, are still being sought by police.
The investigation is ongoing.
