Section of Donald Street becoming one-way

Block of Donald Street directly in front of city hall will convert to eastbound traffic, add angled parking.

THUNDER BAY – A busy section of Donald Street in front of Thunder Bay’s city hall will become a one-way street beginning next week.

The block of Donald between Brodie and May streets will be open to eastbound traffic only as of Tuesday, Nov. 16.

In a statement, the city said the change was needed to address safety concerns for Thunder Bay Transit drivers and passengers, as well as other motorists. City hall serves as one of the city’s two largest transit hubs, with stops located along the south side of Donald.

The section of Donald Street will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 10 and Monday, Nov. 15 to allow workers to install new signage and replace pavement markings.

The change will allow for more on-street parking, using angled parking spots.

Weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines, the city said.

Drivers are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signage when travelling in the area.
