THUNDER BAY — A security guard was taken to hospital for treatment after a robbery at the Dawson Road liquor store on Monday afternoon.

Thunder Bay Police say the guard suffered minor injuries including cuts to his jaw and neck from broken glass during an altercation with two individuals.

According to police, the guard spotted a male and a female attempting to leave the store around 2:30 p.m. with liquor they hadn't paid for.

When he confronted them, a struggle ensued, and the guard and the male suspect broke through a window.

The guard eventually was able to gain control of the situation with the help of a civilian.

Police arrived shortly after to arrest 32-year-old Christopher Joseph Waswa on a charge of robbery.

He appeared in court Tuesday and was remanded with a future appearance date.
