The sentencing hearing for a Thunder Bay man facing manslaughter charges was postponed Monday because the court didn't receive pre-sentence reports until the morning of the hearing.
Joseph Wesley, 34, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 65-year-old Adam Yellowhead. Wesley was charged with second-degree murder in August of last year.
Yellowhead’s body was found on Aug. 29, 2012 in a grassy area at the end of Field Street.
Wesley pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in June but was re-arraigned Monday at the Superior Court of Justice.
Wesley's lawyer Chris Watkins asked for an adjournment after the judge and both defense and the Crown said they didn't receive a Gladue report, a pre-sentence report to consider an Aboriginal offender's background, on the case until 30 minutes before Monday's hearing began.
The Crown stated the report was ordered on June 27 but didn't commence until late August.
The case was adjourned until assignment court on Sept. 23 to set a date for sentencing submissions.
