THUNDER BAY – The number of active COVID-19 cases in Thunder Bay continued to decline, despite the announcement of seven new confirmed cases Saturday.
The number of active cases in the district shrunk to 58 Saturday, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced. That marked a decline of 10 from Dec. 31 (numbers were not reported on Jan. 1), and now stands at less than half the level of active cases reported through much of December.
Of the seven new cases reported Saturday, four were considered a result of close contact with a previously identified case, while another three had no known exposure.
One of the cases reported was for Jan. 1, when the health unit did not report COVID-19 data.
There remained one individual hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Saturday, with no patients admitted to ICU with the virus.
The local case announcement came as Ontario set a new single-day record with 3,363 cases announced Saturday. That exceeded a record set only days earlier on Thursday, when 3,328 cases were reported.
