Seven suspects charged in two local homicide investigations appeared in court Friday.

Five of the six suspects charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 44-year-old Lloyd Oskineegish on July 18 appeared in person at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.

Police discovered the victim’s burned remains in a wooded area near Field Street and police said Oskineegish was the victim of a violent assault.

Larissa Shingebis, 20; Felton Sakanee, 26, Kevin Wabason, 38; James Chapais, 33; Christopher Meeseetawagesic, 25; and Keith Mishenene, 21, were all charged with second-degree murder in relation to the incident.

Shingebis, Sakanee, Wabason, Chapais and Meeseetawagesic had their cases adjourned to Oct. 24.

Mishenene’s next court date is Oct. 3, which was set on Sept. 5.

All suspects are in custody and the Crown said they are waiting for disclosure from the police before the case can proceed.

The case for two people charged with aggravated assault in connection with the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted and then died was also before the court Friday morning.

Carl Spencer Rae, 31, and Becky Mamakwa, 21, were both arrested on July 1 after the alleged robbery and assault of 52-year-old Christopher Adams outside of city hall on the corner of Donald and May Streets.

The investigation became a homicide one after Adams died on July 8 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Mamakwa was released on bail on Sept. 12 and her lawyer David Dubinsky appeared as agent for her Friday.

Rae appeared in person and both suspects will return to court on Oct. 24.
Rae remains in custody.

None of the allegations against any of the suspects in either investigation have been proven in court.
