UPDATED: Charge laid following Oliver Paipoonge collision (2 Photos)

Collision involved a pickup truck and a minivan.

THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay OPP say one person was hospitalized and two vehicles sustained extensive damage in a Wednesday morning collision on West Arthur Street at the Twin City Crossroads in Oliver Paipoonge.

According to an update provided by police late Wednesday afternoon, a pickup truck northbound on Highway 130 entered the intersection with Arthur Street and collided with a westbound SUV.

Both vehicles entered the ditch, and the SUV struck and broke a hydro pole.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

OPP have charged the truck's driver under the Highway Traffic Act for allegedly failing to yield.

A flashing signal light that warns motorists approaching the intersection was knocked loose when the hydro pole was struck, leaving a component hanging closer to the pavement.

As a result, OPP redirected tractor-trailer units to alternate routes.
