Shchepanik drops out of Neebing race

Neebing Ward candidate Gary Shchepanik is dropping out of the race.
Neebing Ward candidate Gary Shchepanik is dropping out of the race.

Shchepanik was one of five candidates running for the Neebing Ward, but announced Tuesday that new job commitments would not allow him to pay enough attention to the duties of a city councillor.

"I have accepted a position on the Executive Board of the Power Workers Union that will take me to Toronto weekly for extended periods of time," the candidate wrote in a letter to media. "With balancing my family life and work I am unable to give (constituents) the 100 per cent commitment it takes to fulfill the job on council at this time."

Despite dropping out from the race, Shchepanik’s name will stay on the ballot for the Oct. 25 municipal election. Shchepanik has not officially and publicly endorsed another Neebing candidate.

"I would ask you to vote for another candidate of your choice," he writes in his letter. "Thanks to all who have offered me their generous support."

Other Neebing Ward candidates who will be on the Oct. 25 ballot are Coun. Linda Rydholm, Bill Scollie, Henry Wojak and Don Sinclair.
