SHEBANDOWAN, Ont. -- Five people were able to escape a long weekend blaze that destroyed their Shebandowan residence.
Emergency responders, including firefighters from the Shebandowan and Conmee volunteer fire departments, were called just before 2 a.m. on Monday to the fire on Highway 11 in Shebandowan, provincial police said in a Tuesday news release.
The five family members who were inside were all able to make it out. A male was transported to hospital by Superior North EMS paramedics with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.
An online fundraising page set up after the fire said the man had suffered some burns. The campaign had raised more than $8,000 by 12 p.m. on Tuesday and clothing donations are also being encouraged.
