Shipping down 12 per cent compared to last year

The Port of Thunder Bay’s struggles continue as recently released figures released by the Port Authority shows a total of just under 730,000 tonnes of cargo moved through the port last month.

That's a drop of about eight per cent from totals reported in July of 2009.

For the year, almost 3.3-million tonnes of cargo has been shipped through Thunder Bay, which is down about 12 per cent from last season.

The biggest decline continues to be in grain shipments, which is running about 700,000 tonnes behind last year’s pace.
