THUNDER BAY – Shoppers Drug Mart will hold a province-wide 24 hour VAX-A-THON on Saturday, July 24 for residents who are 18 years old or older. The goal of this event is to provide thousands of Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations all over Ontario in a single day.
"Ontarians have stepped up in droves over the past few months to be vaccinated against COVID-19 many of them in our stores. But we know there's still a gap, particularly with those aged 18-29, and some of that stems from access and availability," says Sarah Ahmad, senior vice president, health and wellness, Shoppers Drug Mart. "For 24 hours, our stores will host walk-in appointments for first or second shots, on a first-come, first-served basis. We know there's still demand, and we want to continue to be part of the solution.”
Vali Orchard associate pharmacist owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in the McIntyre Centre, hopes to see a turn out that keeps them at capacity which is roughly 12-15 patients per hour or more than 300 in the 24 hour period.
The VAX-A-THON starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Shoppers Drug Mart in the McIntyre Centre and will continue until 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
