Sightings of injured wolf in Marathon area lead to police warning

The wolf has been seen several times in the area of Holy Saviour School, Ecole Val Des Bois, Penn Lake road, Penn Lake Park area and Barrick Gold Drive.

MARATHON, Ont., — Ontario Provincial Police have issued a warning about possible wolf sightings in the Marathon area after receiving a call on a Saturday.

Marathon OPP Detachment received a call regarding a sighting of a wolf in the Penn Lake area in Marathon on Saturday, Feb. 6, according to a police news release.

The wolf has been seen several times in the area of Holy Saviour School, Ecole Val Des Bois, Penn Lake road, Penn Lake Park area and Barrick Gold Drive.

Police say the wolf also appears to be slightly injured after it was observed limping. The public is encouraged to use caution when in these areas as an injured animal can be unpredictable.

The OPP is currently working with the Ministry of Natural Resources and conservation officers to rectify the issue and make the area safe for all, the release said.

The public is encouraged to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 if they observe this animal in the area.
