THUNDER BAY — Following a fire at the Thunder Bay Courthouse in early October, the building remains closed with no immediate plans of reopening, according to a ministry spokesperson.
Alexandra Wilkes with the Ministry of the Attorney General said this week “significant progress is being made to return to normal operations” but there is no reopening date on the calendar yet.
The 125 Brodie Street North location was closed after an electrical fire ignited on the building’s seventh floor on Oct. 4. The Courthouse has remained closed while repairs are conducted for water damage caused by the fire.
The Superior Court of Justice continues to operate out of an alternate location at the Courthouse Hotel located on Camelot Street. The Ontario Court of Justice has three courtrooms operating at the Valhalla Inn. Another courtroom is available at the Victoriaville Mall. Some hearings continue to operate remotely by video conference or by phone.
Court counter services are available at the provincial government building on Red River Road.
