SIJHL season will begin on Sept. 23

Opening day for the SIJHL season will begin on Fri. Sept. 23 with Bill Salonen Cup champions Red Lake Miners taking on the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.

THUNDER BAY – Look out hockey fans because the Superior International Junior Hockey League will enter its 21st season on Fri. Sept. 23.

On opening day, the Bill Salonen Cup champions Red Lake Miners taking on the Wisconsin Lumberjacks while the Dryden Ice Dog will host the Kam-River Fighting Walleye.

Then on Sat. Sept. 30, the Sioux Lookout Bomber will play their inaugural game against the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.

The seven SIJHL teams are scheduled to play 54 games this season which means each team will have nine chances to best one another.

The Bill Salonen Cup Playoffs will begin Fri. Mar. 24 of next year. As always, the regular season champion will head up the first-round contender slot, while the rest of the team will face off in the quarterfinal round.  All series will be best-of-7 affairs.  

From there, the Bill Salonen Cup Champions will represent the SIJHL at the CJHL National Championship Centennial Cup in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on May 11, 2023.
