THUNDER BAY -- Construction work along a section Simpson Street could be extended due to some unforeseen underground issues.
So far, rehabilitation work on Simpson between Robertson Street and Pacific Avenue is moving along as planned, but city engineers are analyzing a water main on the street that may need to be replaced soon.
If it is determined the main work should be done this year, it could tack a few more weeks onto the project.
City of Thunder Bay engineer Matthew Miedema said the condition and the cost of the water man is being evaluated.
“Once we get that firmed up we will determine if we want to move forward with that this year or in subsequent years,” Miedema said.
“It would probably be another couple of weeks’ worth of work to be honest by the time you disinfect and get all the testing done, but it’s not a substantial closure extension by any means, it would push the work back here further.”
The sanitary sewer repairs and road work are still expected to be completed by the end of this month.
