Single vehicle crash sends 82-year-old driver to hospital

THUNDER BAY -- An 82-year-old Toronto man was airlifted to the hospital after a single vehicle crash on Highway 17 Wednesday.

THUNDER BAY -- An 82-year-old Toronto man was airlifted to the hospital after a single vehicle crash on Highway 17 Wednesday.

Thunder Bay and Upsala detachment OPP officers responded to reports of a crash just before noon on the highway just 12 kilometres west of Shabaqua.

Firefighters with the Shebandowan Fire Department and paramedics also responded.

Police say the driver of a 2014 SUV was heading west on the highway when the vehicle went onto the shoulder and struck the end of an intersecting bush road.

The crash sent the vehicle airborne before it came to a rest upright in the westbound ditch.

the vehicle sustained major damage.

the driver was transported to a hospital by air ambulance, but his injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
