SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – A standoff in Sioux Lookout on Thursday ended peacefully after nearly five hours.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Friday afternoon, said they attended a call on Seventh Avenue to check on the wellbeing of a resident, but when officers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside the residence.

Police were told there was a possibility of weapons inside the home, so to protect the public, a perimeter was set up and nearby residents were evacuated to the Sioux Lookout Recreation Centre.

At about 10:15 p.m. the male suspect emerged from the home and was taken into custody by police. He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The incident began shortly after 5:30 p.m.
