SIU called in after Dryden OPP involved in altercation

A suspect was sent to hospital following the incident, which took place during a traffic stop on Saturday afternoon.

DRYDEN, Ont. – The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after an altercation between a driver and Ontario Provincial Police officers in Dryden.

OPP on Tuesday said they conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 at about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. The  male driver was arrested, but tangled with police and went into medical distress. He was transported to hospital for assessment and treatment.

OPP are unable to comment further on the situation.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates incidents involving police.
