A member of the Thunder Bay Police Service is facing an assault charge.
The Province's Special Investigation Unit says this comes following an incident in May in which a suspect was taken into custody by the OPP for impaired driving and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Station.
While there, the 43-year-old suspect suffered undisclosed injuries that required hospital treatment.
The SIU says there are reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence was committed.
Const. Andrew Johnston, 38, who is a nine-year-veteran of the force, has been placed on administrative duties until the case has been resolved.
