FORT FRANCES, ON — Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is looking into an incident involving the arrest of a suspected impaired driver by the OPP.

According to police, on May 2 they received two complaints about a possible impaired driver on Highway 71 in La Vallee Township west of Fort Frances.

Officers located a vehicle parked in the middle of a road with the driver asleep at the wheel.

When they tried to arrest the man, he became combative, and was transported to the OPP detachment.

He was released for a future court appearance after being charged with several Criminal Code offences.

The next day, the accused man returned to the detachment to report that he had suffered an injury during the arrest.

As required by law, OPP notified the SIU which will now conduct an investigation.
