The Special Investigations Unit is asking anyone with information about a death at Kakabeka Falls Wednesday afternoon to come forward.
A man fell to his death at the provincial park after 4 p.m.
An OPP officer had been on scene before the man’s death, responding to a call. Because the incident involved police, the investigation is now in the hands of the SIU.
SIU spokesman Frank Phillips said the man has yet to be identified and a post-mortem is scheduled sometime Thursday in Thunder Bay.
“We’re asking anyone who may have witnessed this to contact the SIU,” Phillips said.
The SIU are called in anytime police are involved in a death, serious injury or allegation of sexual assault.
Phillips said he didn’t know how long it would take for the four SIU investigators, including two forensic investigators to complete their investigation.
“Because in this case there’s a death we’re looking at the circumstances surrounding this to determine if there’s any criminality on the part of the police,” Phillips said.
“It will take as long as it takes to conduct a thorough, complete, impartial and unbiased investigation.”
