THUNDER BAY — The province's civilian police oversight agency is investigating after a man was taken to hospital with a serious injury after being arrested earlier this week.
The Special Investigations Unit confirmed it is in the preliminary stages of an investigation into the incident and has assigned two investigators.
A statement from the Special Investigations Unit said preliminary information indicates that a 33-year-old man was arrested by Thunder Bay Police Service officers at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of a May Street convenience store.
The man was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury. No further details about the nature of the injury have been provided.
The Special Investigations Unit said it is seeking anyone who witnessed the interaction, or has video of it, to contact them.
